The Software Engineering major aims to cultivate high-level specialized talents with all-around development in morality, intelligence, physique, aesthetics, and labor skills, who possess solid theoretical knowledge and excellent practical abilities. The major has a strong faculty and rich teaching achievements. It has undertaken several national-level teaching reform projects and received numerous teaching achievement awards. Relying on units such as the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, it has advanced experimental equipment and favorable conditions for further studies. Graduates can work in various jobs in the software and related industries. Graduates with over five years of experience have stronger workplace competitiveness and comprehensive abilities.
Major Highlight
The software engineering major is committed to cultivating students who not only have a solid theoretical and professional knowledge base, but also have the ability to solve practical problems in an exploratory and creative way. The major boasts a strong faculty and high teaching standards. It focuses on reforming educational content and methods. Teachers have undertaken many national and provincial educational reform projects, hosted 1 national bilingual demonstration course, 2 Ministry of Education-Intel quality courses, and 5 Shanghai quality courses. They have received 2 second prizes of National Teaching Achievement Awards, as well as multiple special and first prizes of Shanghai Teaching Achievement Awards. The software engineering major has successively undertaken many National Natural Science Foundation projects, as well as national "863" and "973" projects. It has formed its own research characteristics in software fields such as information systems, multimedia systems, Internet of Things systems and big data. The software engineering major relies on units such as the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and the Computer Technology Research Institute. It provides good experimental conditions and working environment for cultivating senior software engineering professionals. It has the authority to confer a Doctor of Computer Application Technology degree, and a Master of Computer Science and Technology degree (covering three secondary master's authorization points: Computer Software and Theory, Computer Application Technology, and Computer System Architecture). It has set up a professional degree authorization point of Electronic Information (in the fields of Software Engineering and Computer Technology). It can provide follow-up services for further studies of software engineering graduates. With advanced experimental equipment, it has large computer rooms with various models and hardware laboratories for students to use computers and conduct experiments, enabling students to receive good practical training.

They are able to meet the needs of national economic construction, have a solid foundation in natural sciences and good cultural literacy. They also have a strong sense of innovation, team spirit, and international vision. They have mastered the basic knowledge of software engineering, and have strong software development and practical abilities. They can engage in scientific research in the software and related industries, and are capable of analyzing, designing, developing, applying, and maintaining complex software systems, as well as organizing and managing software engineering projects. They can adapt to technological progress and changes in social needs, and become senior specialized talents in the field of software engineering.
For graduates with over five years of experience, the following requirements are expected:
Be able to successfully refine, analyze, design, evaluate, and solve complex engineering problems related to their professional positions in both industrial and academic fields, and adapt to both independent and team working environments.
Manage multidisciplinary projects related to their field from a broad systematic perspective that takes into account important legal, ethical, social, environmental, safety, and economic aspects.
Independently undertake the analysis, design, verification, validation, implementation, application, and maintenance of complex software systems in the software and related industries, software system development management, as well as teaching and research work.
Demonstrate commitment and progress in lifelong learning, professional development, and leadership, and have competitiveness in the software engineering field in the workplace.

Entry Requirements
- 1 . Chinese-taught Programs: Minimum HSK 4 score required (190+ for science and engineering majors; 210+ for humanities and business majors; minimum 60 in writing). Applicants with degrees from previous Chinese-taught programs are exempt from HSK requirements.
- 2 . Applicants without language scores may submit provisional applications but must provide proof of English proficiency to receive the final admission offer.
- 3 . Completion of high school with a diploma or higher academic qualification.
- 4 . No criminal record and good physical and mental health.
- 5 . Minimum age of 16; applicants under 18 must provide a letter of guarantee from a legally recognized adult guardian residing in China.

1. Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS)
Type A: Bilateral Program / ASEAN-China Young Leaders Scholarship (ACYLS) / EU Program / AUN Program / China-Africa Friendship Program, etc.
Steps to Apply:
Step 1: Apply to the dispatching authorities for overseas study in your home country for CGS opportunities.
Step 2: Contact the College of International Education to obtain a Pre-Admission Notice.
Step 3: Visit the CGS Information Management System for International Students, submit your online application, and select East China University of Science and Technology as the application institution.
Step 4: Submit all your application documents to the dispatching authorities before the deadline and download the application form.
Type B: High-level Postgraduate Program / Belt and Road Program, etc.

Visit the CGS Information Management System for International Students to submit your online application.
Use the agency number 10251 for East China University of Science and Technology when applying.
Download the application form after submitting your online application.
2. Shanghai Government Scholarship (SGS)
Visit the Shanghai Government Scholarship Online Application System to submit your online application and download the application form.
For detailed information about CGS Type A, refer to the official CGS website and the notice from your home country’s local international student dispatch department.
Information for CGS Type B and SGS will be notified separately.

Submit your application online:
Visit the ECUST online application system to register and upload your application documents following the system prompts. Please ensure you submit only one application; duplicate applications are not allowed.
Pay the application fee of 600 CNY:
If online payment is not possible, please transfer the application fee to ECUST’s official bank account and email the remittance receipt to cie@ecust.edu.cn.
Note: Your application will be considered invalid if the application fee is not paid. The fee is non-refundable once paid.
