The Digital Media Art major, built upon a nearly 10-year foundation in advertising studies and developed by integrating design and information disciplines, represents a new direction for the expansion of information and media disciplines into the cultural and artistic fields. This major utilizes digital technology for artistic creation, aiming to cultivate talents who integrate science and art, are down-to-earth and innovative, filling the gap in traditional education and meeting the needs of emerging cultural and creative as well as digital content industries. The 办学 characteristics include: Relying on the professional foundation of the College of Art Design and Media, it has created two directions: digital media and brand planning, and digital imaging and applications, with "studio teaching" as a feature; Combining art and engineering, and having both humanities and sciences, it leverages the engineering advantages of East China University of Science and Technology and the humanistic discipline background of a comprehensive university, exploring new ways for the integrated development of disciplines, and forming a leading modern educational model in China; Emphasizing the combination of industry, academia, and research, with teaching connected to industrial development, and starting from the third year, "dual mentors" from schools and enterprises are assigned. This major aims to cultivate innovative and compound specialized talents who have a good command of the basic knowledge and methods of animation, game design, and film and television special effects creation, possess a high level of artistic and humanistic literacy, social responsibility, and international communication ability, and can engage in planning, creation, production, dissemination, operation, or management in the fields of media and cultural industries.

The Digital Media Art major has been developed based on the nearly 10 - year - long educational foundation of the Advertising major, combined with the professional courses of Design (Visual Communication Design direction) and information - related disciplines. It is a new direction for the expansion of information and media disciplines into the cultural and artistic fields. It is a new major that uses digital technology to achieve artistic creation and combines technology with art. It aims to cultivate innovative talents in digital media art with the integration of science and art, and being pragmatic and innovative. This is exactly the gap in the cultivation of traditional educational talents, and it is also urgently needed for the rise of emerging cultural and creative, digital content industries.
The main characteristics of the major's education are as follows:
Relying on the professional foundation of Design (Product Design, Visual Communication Design, Environmental Design) and Advertising in the College of Art Design and Media, it has created two major research directions: digital media and brand planning, digital imaging and its applications, with "studio - based teaching" as its professional characteristic.
Combining art and engineering, and having both arts and sciences, it explores a new path of interdisciplinary and integrated development. It fully leverages the unique advantages of East China University of Science and Technology in the field of engineering, while combining the cultural background of a comprehensive university in the humanities, and relying on the strengths of the College of Art Design and Media in art and media disciplines. It gradually forms an alliance with relevant disciplines to run a new model of schools, and takes the lead in forming a modern educational model with a virtuous cycle mechanism and leading in China in the direction of scientific visualization.
Emphasizing the combination of production, education and research, teaching actively connects with and serves the development of the industry. When students enter the third year of their major study, they will be equipped with "dual mentors from schools and enterprises".
The Digital Media Art major is designed to cultivate innovative and compound specialized talents who have a good grasp of the basic knowledge, theories and methods in animation and comics, game design, film and television special effects creation, film and television post - production, online video production, Internet product development, web interaction design and production, as well as the application of relevant tools. They also have a high level of artistic and cultural literacy. These talents are able to comprehensively apply the knowledge and skills they have learned to analyze and solve practical problems, have a sense of social responsibility and the ability for international communication. They can engage in planning, creation, production, dissemination, operation or management of animation, games, films and television, advertising, and online media in the fields of media and cultural industries.

- 1 . Chinese-taught Programs: Minimum HSK 4 score required (190+ for science and engineering majors; 210+ for humanities and business majors; minimum 60 in writing). Applicants with degrees from previous Chinese-taught programs are exempt from HSK requirements.
- 2 . Applicants without language scores may submit provisional applications but must provide proof of English proficiency to receive the final admission offer.
- 3 . Completion of high school with a diploma or higher academic qualification.
- 4 . No criminal record and good physical and mental health.
- 5 . Minimum age of 16; applicants under 18 must provide a letter of guarantee from a legally recognized adult guardian residing in China.
1. Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS)
Type A: Bilateral Program / ASEAN-China Young Leaders Scholarship (ACYLS) / EU Program / AUN Program / China-Africa Friendship Program, etc.
Steps to Apply:
Step 1: Apply to the dispatching authorities for overseas study in your home country for CGS opportunities.
Step 2: Contact the College of International Education to obtain a Pre-Admission Notice.
Step 3: Visit the CGS Information Management System for International Students, submit your online application, and select East China University of Science and Technology as the application institution.
Step 4: Submit all your application documents to the dispatching authorities before the deadline and download the application form.
Type B: High-level Postgraduate Program / Belt and Road Program, etc.

Use the agency number 10251 for East China University of Science and Technology when applying.

2. Shanghai Government Scholarship (SGS)
Visit the Shanghai Government Scholarship Online Application System to submit your online application and download the application form.
For detailed information about CGS Type A, refer to the official CGS website and the notice from your home country’s local international student dispatch department.
Information for CGS Type B and SGS will be notified separately.
Submit your application online:
Visit the ECUST online application system to register and upload your application documents following the system prompts. Please ensure you submit only one application; duplicate applications are not allowed.
Pay the application fee of 600 CNY:
If online payment is not possible, please transfer the application fee to ECUST’s official bank account and email the remittance receipt to cie@ecust.edu.cn.
Note: Your application will be considered invalid if the application fee is not paid. The fee is non-refundable once paid.
