Major Overview
Environmental Design major focuses on the relationship between human and environment, with the goal of improving the quality of human living environment. It is an applied discipline with multiple characteristics such as sociality and practicality. The core is around the collaboration of indoor and outdoor environment in the modern context and the design of urban and rural public space, exploring the design laws and sustainable methods of the integration of ecology, humanity, art and technology. The major emphasizes the cultivation of design innovation and engineering practice ability, and promotes talent cultivation through the construction of curriculum system, teaching staff and other aspects and the cooperation of industry, academia and research. At the same time, it cooperates with other majors in the College of Art Design and Media, such as cooperating with the Visual Communication major to meet the needs of local characteristics and corporate image, and cooperating with the Digital Media major to meet the characteristics of the information age, etc. It is committed to cultivating high-quality talents with all-round development in morality, intelligence, physique and aesthetics, and with social responsibility, moral cultivation, international vision and other qualities, who can engage in related design, research and teaching work in multiple units.
Major Highlight
The major of Environmental Design takes the relationship between human and environment as the main line, is committed to improving the overall quality of human living environment, focuses on how to create or optimize human living space, and is a research and application-oriented discipline emphasizing social nature, practicality, comprehensiveness, systematic nature and regional nature. It has the characteristics of combining theoretical research with practical creation, environmental experience with aesthetic guidance. This major focuses on collaborative innovative design of indoor and outdoor architectural environments and urban - rural public space environment design in the modern context, explores the modern environmental design laws of ecological, humanized, artistic and technological aspects, and always seeks sustainable design methods and skills.
This major, oriented towards cultivating students' design innovation ability and engineering practice ability, carries out the construction of professional teaching curriculum system, professional teacher team, professional practice teaching conditions, professional teaching management system and professional scientific research ability guarantee, emphasizes industry - academia - research cooperation, makes full use of social resources, and promotes professional talent cultivation work with highlighting professional characteristics as the foundation.The major of Environmental Design further plays to its professional strengths through cross - disciplinary and cooperative efforts with various majors in the College of Art Design and Media. Through cooperation with the Visual Communication major, it makes this major more in line with the demand for local characteristic images in the field of urban and rural space design and more in line with the demand for shaping the overall corporate image in the field of commercial space design. Through cooperation with the Digital Media major, its research in the fields of exhibition design and environmental decoration design is more in line with the characteristics of the information age. Through cooperation with the Landscape Architecture major, it expands the exploration in the field of landscape design. Through cooperation with the Industrial Design major, it deepens the research on furniture design, public facility design and environmental decoration design.

The Environmental Design major is committed to cultivating well-rounded talents with moral, intellectual, physical, and aesthetic development. These talents are expected to meet the needs of national modernization and development, possess a strong sense of social responsibility, and have good moral cultivation and artistic and cultural literacy. They should also have an international perspective and modern design concepts, excellent design creativity and engineering practice abilities, market awareness, and team spirit. They are capable of working in various design units, research institutions, and enterprises and institutions, engaging in design, research, teaching, and other work related to architectural interior and exterior environmental design and urban and rural public space environmental design.

Entry Requirements
- 1 . Chinese-taught Programs: Minimum HSK 4 score required (190+ for science and engineering majors; 210+ for humanities and business majors; minimum 60 in writing). Applicants with degrees from previous Chinese-taught programs are exempt from HSK requirements.
- 2 . Applicants without language scores may submit provisional applications but must provide proof of English proficiency to receive the final admission offer.
- 3 . Completion of high school with a diploma or higher academic qualification.
- 4 . No criminal record and good physical and mental health.
- 5 . Minimum age of 16; applicants under 18 must provide a letter of guarantee from a legally recognized adult guardian residing in China.

Steps to Apply:
Step 1: Apply to the dispatching authorities for overseas study in your home country for CGS opportunities.
Step 2: Contact the College of International Education to obtain a Pre-Admission Notice.
Step 3: Visit the CGS Information Management System for International Students, submit your online application, and select East China University of Science and Technology as the application institution.
Step 4: Submit all your application documents to the dispatching authorities before the deadline and download the application form.
Type B: High-level Postgraduate Program / Belt and Road Program, etc.

Visit the CGS Information Management System for International Students to submit your online application.
Use the agency number 10251 for East China University of Science and Technology when applying.
Download the application form after submitting your online application.
2. Shanghai Government Scholarship (SGS)
Visit the Shanghai Government Scholarship Online Application System to submit your online application and download the application form.
For detailed information about CGS Type A, refer to the official CGS website and the notice from your home country’s local international student dispatch department.
Information for CGS Type B and SGS will be notified separately.
Application Process
Submit your application online:
Visit the ECUST online application system to register and upload your application documents following the system prompts. Please ensure you submit only one application; duplicate applications are not allowed.
Pay the application fee of 600 CNY:
If online payment is not possible, please transfer the application fee to ECUST’s official bank account and email the remittance receipt to cie@ecust.edu.cn.
Note: Your application will be considered invalid if the application fee is not paid. The fee is non-refundable once paid.
